Dr. Chalermchai Sri-on, Minister of Natural
Resources and Environment (MNRE). TCEB, Head of the Thai delegation, delivered
a speech at the Resumed high-level section of the 29th Conference of the United
Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 29) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Mr. Jatuporn Charnpat, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Natural Resources and
Environment, together with Dr. Phirun Saiyasitpanich, Director-General of the
Department of Climate Change and Environment, and executives of the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs attended the meeting.
Dr. Chalermchai delivered a statement on
behalf of Thailand, expressing his commitment to reduce greenhouse gas
emissions. Thailand has been one of the countries affected by climate change
and has suffered losses in life and property as well as economic and
biodiversity, while Thailand has not been able to emit greenhouse gases. 1% of the world's greenhouse gas reduction
efforts are based on a different level of responsibility to achieve the goal of
reducing greenhouse gas emissions under NDC 2030 to 222 million tons of carbon
dioxide from operations in five areas: energy, transportation, community waste
management and industrial waste, industrial processes and product use. And agriculture, with concrete action plans
to support concrete operations and expedite operations to NDC 3. 0 to reduce
greenhouse gas emissions to below 270 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent
by 2035, from the base year 2019, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emission
while establishing a green investment plan, and accelerating the reabsorption
of the forest sector to 120 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent by 2037.
In terms of climate change adaptation,
Thailand has focused on integrating national adaptation plans into concrete
local operations in six areas: water management, agriculture and food security,
tourism, public health, natural resource management, settlement and human
security. The development of early
warning systems at the local level, as well as accelerating the recovery and
protection of marine and coastal biodiversity, and, more importantly, driving
policy toward all levels of systematic and integrated implementation, which is
at the heart of achieving the challenging goals of the Paris Agreement. Thailand's Climate Change Action Partnership
Meeting 2024 to strengthen cooperation from all sectors, as well as promote the
Climate Change Act to achieve balanced operations in both the Carbon Price
Mechanism and the Climate Fund. That's
immune to climate change in a sustainable way.
At COP 29, Thailand is looking
forward to a decision to raise funds in line with its new financial goals and
to clarify the rules, guidelines and requirements for access to loss and loss
funds to help developing and vulnerable countries to drive their operations
quickly and efficiently. As well as the
potential to face the risks of climate change, and believe that this will be a
crucial time in setting the course of action, creating a strong transition to
the goals of the Paris Agreement, and calling for the international community
to express its sincere commitment.
Together, we will save the world so that the next generation can live in
a sustainable way.
